PONDS

Backyard Ponds

Ponds are wonderful additions to your yard or garden. The beauty of natural stones and plant life, along with the peaceful sounds of rushing water, immediately transport you back to nature without ever leaving your home. When installed correctly, the rock, boulder, and plant design look completely natural. The waterfall circulates the water and adds a wonderful, soothing and relaxing sound.

We create customized pond designs, as well as streams, to enhance your home and backyard for years to come. Each pond and waterfall design is made custom to its area and blends in naturally with its environment. The many ponds we’ve installed over the years are designed to appear and operate identically to natural bodies of water, transporting you back to nature and into a relaxing bliss.

We also design and install a variety of beautiful, top quality water features. Our pond maintenance is also relatively easy and affordable. You may add koi fish, turtles and aquatic plants to your pond, as these too require minimal maintenance and live easily in our pond installations.

Pondless Waterfalls

A pondless waterfall features an underground basin that catches the water and sends it through a filter and back up to the waterfall again. This re-circulating stream gives the illusion that the water starts from atop the waterfall and comes down into the Earth. All the beauty of a waterfall is there, only without the pond.

To install a pondless waterfall, a hole is dug and a pond basin is put in place. It’s filled with water, covered with a grille and then lined with gravel. A pump will push the water up through a nozzle behind the waterfall, sending it down the rocks and into the ground. The water is then collected back into the basin, filtered and sent right back up. It looks like there’s no pond at all, when in reality, it’s just beneath the ground and not visible.

This can be a great choice for anyone who loves the idea of a waterfall in their backyard, but isn’t sure about installing a full pond. Ponds require maintenance and cleaning, which isn’t for everyone. If space is an issue, pondless waterfalls generally take up less room than a full pond, although large pondless systems can be installed if desired. Also, parents with young children won’t have to worry about them playing too close to the waterfall, because there’s no danger of falling in.

Custom shapes, sizes and features can be installed, depending on what you’re looking for. If you later decide to install a full pond, the system can be swapped out.

Koi Ponds

Having a koi pond is not as simple as adding fish to an existing water feature. In order to thrive, koi need a specific ecosystem. A combination of oxygenating plants, and a vitamin-rich diet and filtrating water will keep your koi happy and healthy. Additionally, a controlled amount of algae is also vital to fish health. While too much algae can pose a problem, a balanced amount is vital for your koi’s health as well as the overall pond. Algae is beneficial as a nutritious food source for fish, especially baby fish, as well as oxygenates the water. With a naturally balanced aquatic garden design, algae is kept at optimal levels, providing food and oxygen to fish, while still preventing algae from running rampant.

Protecting your Koi against potential predators is also vital. Adding plants that provide shelter for the fish to hide as well as rock out cropping will protect them from bird attacks.

The best way to protect your fish from environmental and predatorily dangers is to get your pond constructed properly from the start. We have built thousands of koi habitats across the Los Angeles area. Give us a call today to get your koi questions answered.

Streams

Are you searching for a a natural looking water feature but are limited on space? A stream could be the way to go. Instead of depositing into a pond, a stream can deposit the water into a bed of gravel that hides a circulation pump. From there, the water is channeled underground to the start of the start of the water feature to begin the process again. Streams can also include a waterfall or water bowl in the design if you choose to add some height to your water feature. Backyard streams can be added to an existing water feature or be built to stand alone. A stream is low maintenance and can take up very little space while also adding the relaxing sounds of flowing water to your backyard.
