At Lunaquatic, we design and build custom ponds, koi ponds, pondless waterfalls, fountains and outdoor water features for homeowners throughout Los Angeles.

Every project is individually designed around the property, creating outdoor spaces that are beautiful, practical and built to be enjoyed for years to come.

Whether you're transforming a compact courtyard or a sprawling hillside garden, our focus is always the same: creating a landscape that feels complete.

Water Features Designed for Los Angeles Homes

Few cities offer the variety of landscapes found throughout Los Angeles.

From contemporary homes tucked into the Hollywood Hills to established gardens in Brentwood and traditional family properties across the flatlands, every project presents different opportunities and different challenges.

Rather than approaching every property with the same ideas, we begin by understanding the site itself. Existing landscaping, elevation, drainage, access, architecture and outdoor living spaces all influence the finished design.

The result is a water feature that feels integrated with the landscape rather than simply installed within it.

A City of Terrain and Microclimates

Los Angeles isn't one landscape — it's dozens of them, often only a few miles apart.

In the hillside communities of the Hollywood Hills and the canyons above Brentwood and Bel Air, terrain drives the design. Grading, retaining structures, drainage paths and access for equipment often shape a project as much as the homeowner's vision does. Hillside properties in fire-prone areas also call for water features that work alongside defensible-space landscaping — positioned and planted with brush clearance and fire-conscious design in mind, not just aesthetics.

Move into the San Fernando Valley, and the priorities shift. Summer heat runs significantly higher than the coastal-influenced Westside, and a water feature does real work here — cooling the air around a patio, giving a large flat lot a focal point it wouldn't otherwise have, and creating shade and humidity that established or newly-planted landscaping benefits from.

In the city's older flatland neighborhoods — around Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Eagle Rock and similar established areas — mature trees and existing hardscape are often the starting point. Root systems, existing irrigation and decades-old grading mean a new water feature has to be designed around what's already there, not dropped into a blank canvas.

We don't design the same water feature for a Valley backyard that we'd design for a hillside lot above Sunset. The site dictates the solution.

Why Homeowners Choose Lunaquatic

Beautiful water features are built on careful planning.

Long before construction begins, we consider how water will circulate, how the feature will be experienced from different parts of the property, how it will mature over time and how much ongoing maintenance fits the homeowner's lifestyle.

That planning process allows us to create landscapes that remain enjoyable long after construction has finished.

Every project is individually designed because every property deserves an individual solution.

What We've Learned Building Water Features in Los Angeles

Working throughout Los Angeles has reinforced one lesson more than any other: there is no such thing as a typical project.

Some properties offer expansive gardens with room for large ecosystem ponds and winding streams. Others require careful planning to transform relatively compact outdoor spaces into places that feel calm, private and connected to nature.

We've learned that the best water features aren't necessarily the largest or most elaborate. They're the ones that feel completely at home within the landscape.

Sometimes that means preserving mature planting and designing around existing trees. Other times it means positioning a waterfall so it's visible from inside the house, allowing homeowners to enjoy moving water throughout the day rather than only when they're outside.

In hillside neighborhoods, it also means thinking early about slope, access and how equipment reaches the backyard — decisions that shape a project before the first design sketch is even drawn.

Those decisions rarely appear on a plan, but they're often what makes a finished project feel effortless.
